KEITH O’Brien has been accused of sexual assaulting a priest on the night he was made a cardinal.

It has emerged that one of the claims against him centres on the night he was awarded the red mitre by Pope John Paul II in 2003.

The complaint, made by a Scottish priest now based in London, had already been reported but it was thought to have dated back to 2001.

However, it emerged yesterday that the priest claims he was groped by Cardinal O’Brien at an event in Scots College in Rome on October 21, 2003.

The priest said he was among a party of clerics who had travelled to see their senior colleague’s elevation at the Vatican.

Six priests and former priests have now made claims against Cardinal O’Brien that are being probed by the Catholic church.

The first to be made public came from four priests who jointly accused him of inappropriate behaviour.

The 2003 allegation emerged soon after and the sixth emerged last week from a former trainee priest who claimed he was abused by Cardinal O’Brien at a seminary as a teenager.

A Church spokesman said: “A number of complaints have been passed to the Vatican.

“The detail of them is not known to the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland.”

About victimsofrapebythercc

The Catechism offers a clear moral teaching: "Rape is the forcible violation of the sexual intimacy of another person. It does injury to justice and charity. Rape deeply wounds the respect, freedom, and physical and moral integrity to which every person has a right. It causes grave damage that can mark the victim for life. It is always an intrinsically evil act. Graver still is the rape of children committed by parents (incest) or those responsible for the education of the children entrusted to them." (no. 2356) Note that rape is "an intrinsically evil act," meaning that it is evil at its very root, nothing justifies it, and it is objectively a mortal sin. An evil act was done against me, a crime, by a priest at St Thomas More Parish in Durham, NH. An evil and a crime I will no longer keep silent about. Those who perpetrate crimes against children, especially those of the Roman Catholic Church, should all be punished for their crimes against children. Anything less would be criminal.

  1. How can the Roman Catholic Church even keep this man as a Cardinal? Why is not this man defrocked and kicked out and banned from the church? Why is this man not excommunicated from the Church?

This is a reason my family and I are now leaving the RCC. We cannot abide by this evil any longer and we will NOT be giving any money to this church ever again.

Again Frank, thank you for opening our eyes to this never ending evil.
