Brother Paul L. Gauvin removed from current position at Connecticut parish

PORTLAND, Maine —An investigation by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland has substantiated an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor brought against a Catholic brother who served at an Aroostook County parish in the early 1970s.

In a statement issued Saturday morning, the diocese said evidence was found to back up a claim by a Maine man who said Brother Paul L. Gauvin , now 73, sexually abused him in the early 1970s when he was an altar server at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Madawaska.  Gauvin was the director of religious education at the parish at the time, according to Dave Guthro, a spokesman for the diocese.

Guthro said the man contacted officials at Sacred Heart Parish in Bloomfield, CT earlier this year and told them that Gauvin, the parish’s director of liturgy, had molested him over a two year period when the man was 11 and 12 years old.

Before his assignment at St. Thomas Aquinas, Gauvin worked as an English teacher at Madawaska High School. The high school employed Brothers of the Sacred Heart as teachers at the time, according to Guthro. The religious order left Maine in 1994, he said.

Guthro said Gauvin was removed from his position at the Connecticut parish immediately after the allegations were brought forth. The Brothers of the Sacred Heart have been notified of the investigations findings and are dealing with the matter with Gauvin, Guthro said. Gauvin is now being supervised by a religious superior from the order and will have no contact with minors, he said.

Guthro said the diocese has offered counseling, spiritual support and other social services to the victim.

Bishop Richard Malone urges anyone who might have additional information about this or any other case of sexual abuse to contact law enforcement and Deacon John Brennan, director of the Office of Professional Responsibility for the diocese at 321-7836.

A former Catholic brother and convicted sex offender is to fight an extradition order

A former Catholic brother and convicted sex offender is to fight an extradition order to Australia where he is facing 252 charges of sexually abusing boys.

Bernard McGrath has already served time in prison in New Zealand for abusing boys in Christchurch.

The former St John of God brother appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Monday morning, where he was remanded on bail and ordered to appear again on 28 January.

Commenting on his decision to allow television cameras to film McGrath in court, Judge Saunders said he did so to prevent a repeat of the situation last time the Catholic brother appeared, when he was followed by cameramen and filmed on the street.

Judge Saunders labelled those actions irresponsible.

A former Lake Macquarie Catholic brother accused of raping dozens of boys is today expected to reveal if he will fight plans to extradite him from New Zealand.

Hunter region detectives have spent more than a year investigating allegations relating to the Kendall Grange boys home at Morisset south of Newcastle.

It was run by the St John of God order and police allege former Brother Bernard McGrath abused 35 boys while working there.

McGrath, who has been living in Christchurch, New Zealand, is currently facing 252 child sex charges.

He has been on strict conditional bail after facing Christchurch District Court earlier this month.

As part of the conditions he was forced to surrender his passport and was banned from going within 100 metres of any primary or secondary school unless he was driving past.

There had been criticism of New South Wales police after McGrath went to Sri Lanka for a holiday but detectives have told the ABC they knew he would return to New Zealand.

McGrath is due to face Christchurch District Court today to reveal if he will fight plans to extradite him to Australia.

Detectives leading the case have not flown to New Zealand.

They have told the ABC even if McGrath does not fight the extradition order he has a 14 day cooling off period.

So the Pope says gay marriage poses a threat to justice?

Pope Says Gay Marriage Poses A Threat To ‘Justice And Peace’ In World Day Of Peace 2013 Address

Pope Benedict XVI said this week that gay marriage poses a threat to “justice and peace.” The 85-year-old religious leader went on to suggest that same-sex marriage is “unnatural.”

REALLY POPE BENEDICT???????

So you believe that by allowing gays to marry this poses a threat to justice and peace. What a hypocrite you are.

When you were known as Cardinal Ratzinger, you knowingly allowed to known pedophile priests to continue raping children when it was your responsibility at the time to turn them over to authorities. Instead you moved these priests around and they raped even more children. The same is with a lot of your Bishops whom are now Cardinals. So you allow your leaders of your church to let pedophiles who rape children to rape even more children, then you and the church does everything it can to block us victims from getting justice, and you got the balls to be a hypocrite and say that gay marriage poses a threat to justice and peace.

From Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Bernard Law and Michael Leveda, all the way to Bishop Lynn, you and the rest of them have done EVERYTHING you can to deny us victims true justice. What would be true justice in this? For YOU Pope Benedict XVI, Cardinals Dolan, Leveda and Law and the rest involved in the cover up of your priests who raped us to resign, turn yourself over to authorities and be prosecuted for your crimes. You have your psychotic pit bull Bill Donohue, President of the Catholic League to run roughshod over us victims and you pay him to do so.

No Pope Benedict the treat to justice is YOURSELF and the rest of your Pedophile Pimps and Priests. You are a threat to humanity and to children. YOU should be rotting in prison, with Dolan, Law and Leveda right alongside Jerry Sandusky.

One day Pope Benedict you are going to have to answer for your crimes before God himself. As Jesus said, it would be better for you to tie a boulder around your neck and throw yourself into the deepest of lakes than harm a single hair on the head of a child. Seeing you as head of the RCC loves to condemn people and tell them they are going to hell along with the rest of your Pedophile Pimps, well I can say this without a shred of doubt. While I am not a christian and never will be so again, you are going to burn in hell for that is where you will be sent by your god for the evils you helped pereptrate against children just so you could cover your asses.
